Uyo Airport inaugurates first international flight

The inaugural international flight from the Victor Attah International Airport Uyo, Akwa Ibom State took place on Saturday May 2,2026.

The flight operated with an Ibom Air owned aircraft from Uyo to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana, had Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barrister Festus Kiyamo (SAN) on board.

It is on record that the flight is the first scheduled international flight to be operated from a state government owned airport and with an state government aircraft in Nigeria.

This bold vision and sustained investment in aviation infrastructure is not just a commendable development for the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State but a shining example of subnational commitment to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for economic diversification and connectivity.

The commencement of international operations from Uyo is expected to boost tourism, trade, and investment, while also creating jobs and enhancing regional integration within West Africa.

In a  statement by Special Adviser On Media and Communications to the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Tunde Moshood said the inaugural flight witnessed the take-off of what is widely regarded as a new chapter in Nigeria’s aviation story.
