Tinubu approves 30% debt relief to airlines

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a 30 percent debt relief to domestic airlines operating in the country

The relief which is part of measures to ease operational pressure in the sector, .comes as a discount on outstanding fees owed by domestic airlines to aviation agencies

This was made known by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Barrister Festus Keyamo SAN who said the message was delivered to them through the Chief of Staff to the President,  Hon Femi Gbajabiamila on Thursday evening.

According to  Keyamo the relief covers debts such as parking charges owed to Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN), navigational charges to  Nigeria  Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and other regulatory fees accumulated by the domestic  airlines.

The Minister explained that the decision followed earlier assurances by the President and is aimed at cushioning the impact of the ongoing Jet A1 fuel crisis affecting airline operations and costs.

It is a step toward stabilising the aviation sector and sustaining domestic flight operations.
