NSIB begins investigation into runway excursion involving Aerocontractors’ aircraft at Abuja airport

Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau ( NSIB) has began investigation into a runway excursion involving an Aerocontractors airline’s at Nnamidi Azikiwe Airport Abuja on Sunday.

NSIB confirmed that it has been informed about the serious incident involving a Boeing 733 aircraft with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BYQ belonging to Aerocontractors Airlines,

The multi modal multimodal investigation agency  in Nigeria, said the incident occurred at about  around 10:47am (Local Time) on Sunday November 12,  2023.

“The Nigeria Safeyy Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has been notified and has commenced investigation into a serious incident involving a Boeing 733 with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BYQ belonging to Aerocontractors Airlines, which occurred around 10:47am (Local Time) on 12th November, 2023,” NSIB confirmed.

It was gathered that the incident happened after the aircraft from Lagos landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from Lagos and in a bid to exit the runway via A4 had its nose wheel stuck in the grass verge with its fuselage on the runway.

Consequently, the runway was closed pending the towing of the aircraft from the runway.There was no injury or fatality.

NSIB has therefore solicited information from the general public in form of pictures, video or recording evidences to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.

The investigating agency however urged the general public and press to respect the privacy of the people on board and NOT assume the cause of the serious incident until formal report is released.
