Huge smoke, no fire at our head office – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said the generator building at its head office in Abuja was not on fire as earlier reported in some quarters this evening.

The apex bank however, confirmed that the generator building located at the back of the main building was enveloped in a huge smoke which has since been put under control by a team of its fire fighting personnel.

A statement signed by its Acting Director, Corporate Communications Isaac Okorafor, the apex bank stated that there was a minor incident of excessive smoke at its head office building located in the Central Business District of Abuja on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

The statement said that the incident, which occurred at the generator house, just behind the Bank building, at about 6.16 p.m., has been effectively put under control by the team of fire fighting personnel of the CBN, who immediately responded as soon as the installed smoke detector triggered an alarm. .

“We wish to assure all stakeholders that no life was lost nor anyone injured in the incident. There was also no damage done to any part of main building of the Bank,” the stamen added.

The spokesperson for the nation’s apex bank who said that investigation has commenced into the cause of the smoke.

He, however convened the appreciation of the management of CBN to everyone who showed concerns by circulating information when the huge smoke was seeing rising over the generator building at the CBN premises.

“Investigation has commenced to ascertain the remote cause of the smoke incident.

“Meanwhile, the Bank is grateful to all who showed concern by circulating information when smoke billowed over the generator house as well as other sister agencies and the media for their prompt response,” the statement concluded.
