…Orders service flag to be flown at half mast
The Acting Comptroller General (Ag CGI), Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju has condoled with the families of personnel of the service who lost theirs lives in an auto crash which occurred on Sunday November 2, 2023.
She has also directed all Commands and Formation Heads to fly the service flag at half-mast for the next seven days. While a three-day mourning period should be observed in honor and memory of the fallen personnel.
Adepoju’s messages was delivered by the Service Public Relations Officer, Dr. Adedotun Aridegbe ,a Deputy Comptroller of Immigration (DCI), during a press briefing held at the service headquarters on Monday, November 13, in Abuja
Recalled that a group of eleven of Immigration Service personnel was involved in a ghastly auto crash on their way from Kano to Abuja after an official assignment.
Unfortunately, four of the personnel died in the crash, while eight are receiving treatments at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano, for varying degrees of injuries sustained during the ghastly accident which involvesd an eighteen-seater official bus.
“Tragically, they were involved in a ghastly accident a few kilometers from Kano. As a result, four of our personnel lost their lives. This has been a deeply distressing and sorrowful moment for all of us within the Nigeria Immigration Service,” Aridegbe said.
He continued, “seven of our colleagues who sustained various degrees of injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano. Our thoughts and prayers are with them for a swift and complete recovery.”
Aridegbe said that the Acting Comptroller General who is deeply grieved by the loss of the personnel has directed immediate investigation into the cause of the accident to forestall future occurrence.
“An immediate investigation has been ordered by the Acting CGI to ascertain the remote cause of the accident. We are committed to understanding the circumstances that led to this tragic event and will take appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” said the NIS image maker.
