Wake held for late Hugh Bolaji Macaulay

The funeral programme for the former  Chief  Corporate Affairs Officer at Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), late Hugh Bolaji Macaulay,  began on Wednesday evening  with a wake held at St Leo Catholic Church,  Toyin Street,  Ikeja,  Lagos in his honour.

Macaulay who died in February this year at the age of 61 years, retired from the services of FAAN last year, after attaining the mandatory service age of 60 years.

Given the reflections at the wake held in a beautifully decorated hall within the church premises, Father  Stephen Enaro who  described death as a misery which only God knows and understands when, how and where it will come, noted that it is very certain that every human being would pass through death to eternal life. He however, said Jesus Christ gave those who believe in him the assurance of new life after death.

He told the gathering that it was not the duty of any man to judge but to pray for the deceased because mercies override judgment.

“Death is a misery.  If there is anything that is certain, it is death. We must all pass through it to eternity. But Jesus gave us assurance of new life after death. We are not here to judge but to pray for his soul and family. We have come to seek the mercy of God for him to have favourable judgment, because mercies override judgment,” the priest admonished.

He therefore encouraged  the bereaved family to leave everything to God, and the church to continue to be good ambassadors of God on earth.

The service was well attended by the family members of the deceased as well as his colleagues and friends from within and outside the aviation industry.

Among those at the programme were General Manager, Corporate Communications at FAAN,  Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu and members of staff from the department.

Also in attendance was Deputy  General Manager,  Commercial FAAN,  Mr. James Shallangua, Chairman,  League of Aviation and Airports  Correspondents ( LAAC), Mr Segun Koiki  and the former General  Manager  Corporate Affairs,  Nigerian Airspace Management  Agency (NAMA), Supo Atobatele, among others.

The funeral service will hold at the Catholic Church Cathedral, Lagos Island by 10:am  today (Thursday).
