An aircraft used by United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) to operate a flight from Abakaliki Airport, Ebonyi State skidded off the runway at Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos on Wednesday.
No casualty was recorded in the incident which occurred at about 15:55hrs on runway 18L
Every passenger on board the flight disembarked safely without anyone sustaining any degree of injury.
Confirming the incident, the airline through its Head, Corporate Communications, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, said the aircraft, 5N-BWW with 50 passengers on board, was flying into Lagos from Abakaliki Airport Ebonyi state, when the incident happened.
“A United Nigeria Airlines aircraft has skidded off the runway 18L at the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 in Lagos.
“The aircraft, 5N-BWW with 50 passengers on board, was flying in from the airport in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, when the incident happened.
“The aircraft landed safely but was forced to terminate its movement to the apron off the runway.
“All passengers disembarked safely and were transported to the arrival hall alongside their luggage,” the statement affirmed.
It added that, officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were at the scene of the incident and alongside UNA engineers working to move the aircraft to the hanger.
He also said that Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have also been duly notified and were on the scene.
Uchegbu who said the airline is collaborating fully with the authorities on the Investigation of the incident, however reassure the public that Unired Nigeria Airline maintains strictest safety standards in its operations and shall continue to prioritize passenger safety at all times.
