Uganda Airline will launch its inaugural flight into Nigeria on Thursday October 19, 2023. This is just as Algeria airline seeks a review of the Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASA) with Nigeria.
These were made known on Tuesday in a media statement by the Spokesperson at the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Oluseyi Odutayo .
Odutayo said the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN). is expected to witness the inaugural flight of Uganda Air to Nigeria
The statement said this was made known by the Uganda High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Nelson Ocheger during a courtesy visit he paid on the Minister in Abuja.
Similarly, the Minister has assured that the Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASA) between Nigeria and Algeria would soon be reviewed.
Keyamo gave the assurance following a request made by the Algerian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Hacine Laiti during a courtesy visit at the Minister’s office to review the agreement earlier entered into with Nigeria on July 14, 2022.
Specifically the Algerian envoy requested sought for direct flight operations to Abuja the federal capital.
LALTI who said the demand for a direct flight to Abuja could be achieved noted that the meetings of aeronautical engineers from both countries earlier slated for December will be brought forward tentatively to the November 7, 2023 to Fastrack the BASA agreement review as demanded.
Earlier in his speech, the LALTI who expressed his appreciation to the Minister for hosting him, said the government of Algeria have identified Nigeria and South Africa as business opportunities countries and is willing to partner with them
Keyamo, while thanking the Ugandan envoy for the visit, said Nigeria and Uganda have a long history of brotherhood. He said the direct flight to be witnessed will mark the beginning of partnership between the two countries while noting that free trade agreement between African countries can only easily come through free skies.
