NITT set to begin conversion of PMS vehicles to autogas

  …Says process will save Nigerians 40 per cent on energy cost   To cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal,  Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT)  is set to begin conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to autogas across its offices in the six Geopolitical zones of the country. This was made known in Zaria on Thursday by Director-General of the institute Dr. Bayero Salih-Farah during an interaction session with Journalists. Salih-Farah  who said the conversion process would begin in few weeks, explained that the institute has been working on the project for over a year and has  built workshops across the six geopolitical zones of country. He said the institute is working in partnership with some manufacturers of the conversion kits which would be fixed at its workshops to enable Nigerians have their vehicles converted from Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). to auto gas at very low prices. The Director General affirmed that with the conversion Nigerians auto owners would be able to save about 40 percent on energy cost. “We have sensitized relevant stakeholders across the country at different fora on the need for Nigerians to migrate from the use of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to gas. “Gas is very cheaper than petrol, it is also cleaner and convenient; Nigerians would be able to save a lot of money when they converted their vehicle from petrol to auto gas. “The cost of transport would come down drastically because the money required to refill a tank using an auto gas would be 40 per cent lower than the money required filling a tank using petrol,’’ he said. The Director General  added that the use of the auto gas would reduce substantial environmental pollution in the country. He, therefore, appealed to Nigerians to take advantage of the initiative. He also said the institute has concluded plan to partner with the National Information Technology Agency (NITDA) on knowledge sharing to the needs of some of the major institutes projects. Salih-Farah said his administration has worked to improve the standard of NITT to enable it achieve the vision of becoming a leading transport and logistics institute in Africa. To achieve this, the DG said facilities in the institute have been upgraded while new structures have been constructed and new centers are  establishedacross the country According to him, the facelift of the institutes was to improve on security and safety on the campus.
