NDLEA intercepts huge consigment of Tramadol, Cannabis, Skunks in Rivers, Adamawa, Ondo

As part of its efforts to prevent entry of illicit drugs and proceeds into the country, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) has intercepted a container loaded with 4,996,200 capsules of tramadol weighing 2,498.2 kilogrammes (2.4 tonnes) at the Onne Port, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

The seizure of the illicit drug concealed in 1,387 cartons on Tuesday, May 19, 2021 followed a joint examination of a container marked, MRKU 0764717 by operatives of NDLEA and Nigeria Customs Services (NCS)

In a statement the director, media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi said the container hich had been on the agency’s watch list.

Babafemi also added that three suspects, 42-year-old Muntari Hamidu, James Godspower and Sani Musa35; all male, have  been arrested iin connection with posssession of Cannabis Sativa and Skunk.

While Hamidu and Godspower were arrested in Nyibango, Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa state with 13 sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 166kg and 36.5kg of cannabis sativa in Faloye, Ogbese, Akure North LGA of Ondo State, respectively, Musa was nabbed with 16.1kg of skunk at Ngurore, Yola South LGA of the state.

The three suspects were arrested on Sunday May 16, 2021.

Recacting to the seizures and arrests, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) lauded the renewed synergy between the anti narcotic agency and other security agencies in its operations.

Marwa who commended the officers and men of the Port Harcourt Port, Adamawa and Ondo State Commands for their resilience and commitment to work, however,  charged them to remain vigilant.
