The Nigeria CivilAviationAuthority (NCAA) has sent a letter of sanction to the operator, Kenya Airways, over the cases of Gloria Omisore and two other passengers.
A statement by the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu the penalties are for consumer protection-related infractions including right to care, failure to provide full disclosure of terms of carriage, failure to respond to the Authority’s request, failure to process refund and compensation, and lost baggage.
The statement added that the fine, in line with the NCAA Regulations 2023, Kenys Airways has seven days to pay the refunds and compensation of $1000 special drawing rights to the affected passengers.
Failure to comply with the letter, according to Achimugu, will attract stiffer penalties for the airline.
The airline has however kept mute on the letter or any step being taken to address it.
A source at the airline who spoke on the condition of anonymity because it does have permission to speak on the issue, however confirmed the receipt of the letter and told our correspondent that further decisions will be communicated from the headquarters of the airline in Nairobi, Kenya.
