Following the expiration on Monday 20, 2018 of a seven day ultimatum issued on management
of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to address the issue of
the organogram of its workforce,
aviation unions in the country have called out their members at NCAA
to embark on strike action from Wednesday, May 22, 2019.
A statement jointly signed by the General Secretaries of the four
unions in the aviation sector in Nigeria, Comrade Ocheme Aba,Comrade
Frances Akinjole, Comrade Abdul Rasaq Saidu and Comrade Umoh Ofonime of National Union of Air Transport Employees ( NUATE); Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association (ATSSSAN); Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals ( ANAP) and National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) respectively, said the Ministry of
Transportation has completely neglected the ultimatum given, while
NCAA has not reacted fully to their demands .
The unions’ demands are: Immediate implementation of new organogram
for NCAA as agreed together by the federal Ministry of Transportation
(Aviation), management of NCAA and the unions; Implementation of the reviewed condition of service as negotiated and immediate inauguration of the governing board for NCAA.
The unions which affirmed that none of these demands has
been met, therefore said after they have exhausted available efforts
and patience, but left with only option to direct workers at NCAA
nationwide to commence an indefinite industrial action with effect
from 0500hours on Wednesday.
The unions which called on the general public for understanding, insisted that the situation would remain so until the aforementioned issues
are completely resolved.
