Med-View Airways Plc has promised to to take its sponsorship of grassroots soccer initiative, Under 16 boys and girls soccer tournament to the national level.
This was disclosed last weekend by its Managing Director/CEO, Alhaji Muneer Bankole at the just concluded finals of the fourth edition of the tournament.
The under 16 boys and girls tournament is a grassroots soccer championship initiated in Lagos State which the airline has sponsored for four consecutive years.
Finals of the tournament tagged: “Med-View Airline Eko Youth Cup 2019” organised in conjunction with the Lagos State Grassroot Soccer Association, took place at the Campos Mini-Stadium, Ajele, Lagos Island, over the weekend.
Speaking with journalists on the successfully organising and sponsorship of the tournament for the fourth year, Alh. Muneer Bankole said the tournament would be taken beyond Lagos State for other parts of the country to have a feel of the grassroots soccer tourney.
According to him, “We will look at the regional level. We will start with the South West region of the country, then, we will move to the center which is the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and then move to the South East. It is good for the whole nation to have the opportunity”.
notwithstanding the skills displayed by the young footballers during the competition, the CEO of Med-View Airlines advised their parents ensure their education is compromised.
Harping on the social benefits derived from the organising grassroots sports, Bankole said: “This tournament has reduced social vices among the children because they were busy channeling their energy to a productive course. Instead of thinking of how to negatively influence the society, they are doing something good with their time and energy”.
On the performances of the players, Alh. Bankole said, “three of the players who participated in the previous editions of the tournament are already part of the national team. More will emerge as we can see quality of display by the players so far.’
Also speaking on the tournament, the secretary of the Lagos State Grassroot Soccer Association, Aliu Ganiyu who appreciated the airline’s Managing Director, Alhaji Bankole for the love he has for the youth of the state through developmental support through sports, said, “We hereby acknowledged the heartwarming gesture of our sponsor, Med-View Airlines. The airline has generously attended to our needs as regards the grassroots football development in the country”.
Medals and trophies and cash prizes were presented at the end of the competition.
