A Boeing 737 aircraft used by Max Air to operate a flight from Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on Tuesday, suffered bird strike shortly after take off at the airport.
On board the flight were, Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and 139 other passengers.
African Business Travel News ( (ABTN) gathered that the aircraft with the registration number: 5N: BBM had departed Kano for Abuja airport at 1:21pm, but made an air return barely nine minutes after take off.
Our correspondent gathered that three of the engine blades were attacked by birds on take-off at the airport.
The attack was followed by a bang on the aircraft, stirring the minds of some of the passengers on board for possible cause of the bang.
Our Correspondent gathered that the airplane vibrated and generated a heavy noise in the air immediately after the attack.
Further investigation revealed that the Pilot-in-Command later informed the passengers about the cause of the incident while returning to the base where the passengers disembarked after safely landing the aircraft.
No case of injury related to the incident has been reported by any passenger on board the flight or the airline.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on phone, said that the incident was similar to the one that happened on Monday in Port Harcourt to one of Aero Contractors aircraft.
He explained that NCAA had immediately called for a meeting with the managements of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to deliberate on how such occurrence could be curbed in the future, stressing that bird strike could cause grave damage to aircraft.
He said: “We are meeting with FAAN and NAMA on this issue of bird strike.”
It would be recalled that similar incident happened barely 24 hours ago to an Aero Contractor’s aircraft at Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA).
