Nigeria immigration Service (NIS), Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, Command has reunited a Nigerian returnee from Oman with her family members.
The returnee, Adepoju Oluwatoyin Ruth, arrived the country through the Lagos airport from Muscat in Oman aboard an Egypt Air flight on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 with a case of mental disorder.
She is expected to be officially handed over to her sister, Adepoju Olamide at the airport today.
However, African Business Travel News (ABTN) gathered that officials of NIS at the Lagos airport went through difficulties during profiling before her true identity could be established and her relations located.
This was because the name: Olajide Oluwatoyin Ruth, with which Egypt Air bought her into the country could not be traced in the database of NIS.
This, however did not deterred the professional and kindhearted officials of NIS at the airport, from going further to get her real name and able to find out her full details in their database.
With This, the service was able to establish a contact with the returnee’s father who resides in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
After the contacted, the father in turn, directed the sister of the returnee who is based in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital to pick her up at the airport.
On her arrival at the airport, the Command subjected Olamide to interrogation to proof her true identity.
While undergoing profiling, it was gathered that the returnee immediately went berserk and incoherent with her communication.
This prompted the Comptroller, MMIA Command, Abdullahi Dalhatu to order her being kept in the custody of Immigration for another 24 hours for better observation.
It took the ingenuity of the officers of the command to calm her down and obtained necessary information from her.
Further search into the details of the returnee indicated that she left Nigeria for Oman in 2019 and was engaged as a house maid in the Middle East country.
Olamide who confirmed that her sister left Nigeria in 2019 in search of greener pastures, expressed delight at reuniting Oluwatoyin with the family again
She also commended the immigration officials at the airport for handling the issue with utmost professionalism and kindness, saying that her respect for the service, especially the command had increased.
When contacted, Dalhatu who advised Nigerians to be mindful of how they travel in search of ”greener pastures’,’ however refused to talk on the development, but referred our correspondent to the headquarters of the service in Abuja for details.
It would be recalled that the command in May was lauded for his professional efforts after it handled similar situation at the Lagos airport, by going extra mile to locate members of the family of a Nigerian deportee, Mr. Osagie Favour, with similar health condition.
