Immigration intercepts fire arm in Lagos airport, arrests suspect

Operatives of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Murtala Mohammed International Airport Command, Lagos have  arrested an inbound passenger in possession of handgun Pistol, Barretta.

The in-bound passenge was on board a flight operated by United Airlines from Houston United States of America.

A statement esigned by the Public Relations Officer of NIS,  Amos Okpu (ACI) stated that the Murtala Muhammed International Command of the NIS had gotten wind of an in-bound passenger in possession of a pistol and the operatives were placed on red alert to intercept the firearm and  arrest the passenger on arrival in Lagos, Nigeria.

“The Lagos Airport Comptroller, CIS Kemi Nandap stated that the Service received a credible intelligence that the passenger had boarded for Nigeria in Houston and had concealed a firearm in his luggage. Upon arrival we declared him a person of interest and contacted the Customs Service for a search on his luggages. The handgun and 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from him.”
The passenger whose identity is not disclosed holds dual nationality of Nigeria and the United States.  He is currently with the NIS undergoing further interrogation to determine his intentions of bringing in the firearm.
Commenting on the arrest, the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration Isah Jere Idris, has advised travellers on the need to always comply with acceptable best practices while embarking on foreign trips.
