Some uber drivers who believe some persons are set as baits for them to be arrested by tow vehicle operators at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos are alleged to have threatened to deal heavily with aviation worker who they errornously believe are used as touts or agents for the purpose.
African Business Travel News (ABTN) learnt that after a video in which an uber driver alleged that a man standing at a bus stop at the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos airport was set to disguise as a passenger to motorists operating illegally in the airport areested went viral on social media on Monday night, the passenger who was allegedly captured in the video as working as a tout for the tow vehicle operators is said to have been receiving death threats from the uber driver and his colleagues.
A reliable source within the airport said the man who the uber driver focused in the video as the possible bait to get him arrested while attempting to pick him as an intending passenger has gone to report a case of threat and the embarrassment to the security agents in the airport for proper investigation, arrest and prosecution of the person who recorded and posted the video on social media.
The passenger who is an aeronautical engineer with one of the leading domestic airlines in Nigeria had on his phone, requested an uber driver to pick him at Strabag Bus Stop opposite MMA2 terminal.
The sources said after booking the service of the first uber driver and waited for time without turning up to pick him, the request was dropped. He had to make anothe request.
Meanwhile during the peroid the passenger was waiting the former driver who couldn’t come for fear of being arrested for engaging in illegal operations within the airport and making another request, the former driver was hiding somewhere on one of the floors of MMA2 multi storey car making a video recording of the passenger as he was pacing around at the bus stop.
He later voiced over the video; describing the innocent aeronautical engineer as a tout working for airport tow vehicle operators, before posting it online.
Our sources said that the engineer claimed he had received several threat messages and calls on Tuesday before his attention was later drawn to the video posted online by the uber driver, describing him as one of the touts used in Lagos airport tow vehicle operators working for Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and Bi-Coutrney Aviation Services Ltd (BASL) to arrest motorists engaging in illegal operations at the airport.
The case was said to have since been reported to the airport security agencies in the airport for further investigations to unraveled those behind the video, threat calls and messages.
