The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended, with immediate effect, the licence of Mattini Airline Services Limited, operator of the aircrsft that was involved in runway incursion on Friday January 26, at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.
This was just as spokesperson at Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Mrs Bimbo Olawunmi Oladeji stated that the agency has commenced full scale investigation into the incident.
In a statement by Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Michael Achimugu the regulatory agency noted that the operator of the flight has a valid licence for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF), it howver, said that the licence remains suspended until determination is made that the conditions of the PNCF have been adhered to.
NCAA added it has further initiated a safety and economic audit of all private jet operations in Nigeria
“NCAA is aware of the runway excursion involving a Challenger CL 601 aircraft, operated by Mattini Airline Services Limited, with registration marks N580KR at Ibadan Airport on 26th January, 2024. Mattini Airline Services Limited holds a valid Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF).
“In line with statutory provisions….the NCAA has initiated an economic inquiry into the operation of the aircraft viz-a-viz the terms and conditions of the PNCF as detailed in its Annexure.
“In the meantime, and in accordance with Sec 32 (4) of the Civil Aviation Act 2022, the NCAA has suspended the PNCF of Mattini Airline Services Limited with immediate effect.
“The suspension will subsist until determination is made that the conditions of the PNCF have been adhered to.,” the statement said.
The NSIB, on its part, said it has been notified of the serious incident and has responded by deploying a Go Team to investigate it.
It however solicited assistance of stskeholdes and the general public who can provide it with relevant evidence to work with in the course of the investigation.
“We want the public to know that we would be amenable to receiving any video clip, relevant evidence, or information any members of the public may have of the serious incident; that can assist us with this investigation,” NSIB requested.
The Bureau which promised to release its preliminary report on the incident as soon as possible, however, called for caution on the parts of the media and the general public on the privacy of the people involved and NOT assume the cause of the serious incident until formal report is released.
