The fierce storms that accompanied heavy rainfall witnessed in some parts of Lagos on Friday night affected one of the feeders that supplies electricity to Murtala Muhammed international Airport thereby causing a temporary power outage at the D Wing of the International Airport, African Business Travel News (ABTN) can report.
The electrical glitch was however rectified quickly and normalcy restored to the affected area of the Airport terminal.
Confirming the development, management of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in statement by its Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, FAAN apologised to passengers and other Airport users affected by the temporary electrical glitch.
“Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN) wishes to apologise to passengers and other airport users that witnessed a temporary power outage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 2315hours yesterday, April 1, 2022.
“The outage, which was as a result of yesterday’s rain, that came with very fierce winds and storms, a natural occurrence, affected one of our feeders, and consequently resulted in the temporary disruption of power supply at the D wing of the airport,” the statement said.
FAAN said the outage was quickly rectified and power supply was restored by its engineers after liaising with the control room at Ejigbo substation of the power distribution company that supplies electricity to the Airport.
“However, our engineers quickly discovered the fault, and liaised with the Ejigbo duty/area control office of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria and together resolved the problem. Normalcy has since been restored at the affected area,” added the statement,” it added
