Hajj 2019: Max Air aircraft in hard side landing at Minna Airport

A Boeing 737- 400 operated by Max Air for inbound airlift of  Nigerian  pilgrims from Saudi Arabia suffered serious incident at Minna Airport today.

The aircraft with 560 passengers and 19 crew on board brushed the surface of the runway with one of its engines during the incident

As at the time of filing this report there was no report of any injury connected with the incident.

Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) which confirmed the incident to www.africanbusinesstravelcom.ng, through a press announcement, said it has been informed of the incident with no report of injury, by the airline.

AIB added that its team of investigators has commenced investigation on arrival  at the scene of the  incident.

“The Accident Investigation Bureau – Nigeria has been notified on 7th September, 2019 by Max Air Limited if a serious incident involving the Boeing 737-400 aircraft with nationality and registration marks 5N- DBK which occurred during final approach at runway 23/Minna International Airport, Minna, Niger State.

“The aircraft took off from King Abdul Aziz International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with 560 passengers and 19 crew member on board.

“From the information provided the aircraft on landing screeped the runway while its number 1 engine brushed the surface of the runway and no injury reported.

“Our team of safety investigators has commenced investigations,” said AIB

Also confirming the incident,Public Relations Officer of Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hajia Hassana Isah  said, the board would is waiting to  be adequately briefed by the experts on what happened to the flight on which she claimed every passenger was safely evacuated”

Isah however assured that all the remaining pilgrims in Saudi Arabia would be safely airlifted back to Nigeria.

One of the passengers who was full of praises to God for averting disaster during the incident said:” I have never seen this type of thing in my life, only God saved us from what would have been a disaster.”
