A raid carried out by a Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) at the Joint Users Hydriant Installation (JUHI) Canal and the international Access Road Bridge of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport,Lagos, has led to the arrest of five suspected miscreants and demolition of shanties within the airport environment.
Speaking on the raid which waa carried outt on Friday, January 12 , 2024, Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, lamented the presence of miscresnts who were bold enough to erect shanties wuthin the vicinity of the nation’s premuim gateway airport.
“It is lamentable to note the gradual transformation of the JUHI canal into a potential hideout for criminals.
while shanties have been erected by miscreants in close proximity to NAHCO Bridge.
“The raid has brought about the dismantling of these shanties by the JMTF and subsequent arrest of five miscreants.
These individuals have been handed over to the Aviation Security Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit ( CIIU) for further interrogation and necessary action,” Orah said.
The management of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has therefore used the opportunity of the raid and arrests to warn menbers of the public to desist from engaging in any form of encroachment on its land anywhere in the country, warning that such an act shall no longer be tolerated.
“FAAN is using this medium to warn the general public that any encroachment into the airport environment shall not be tolerated, and anyone who has no business at the airport should please stay away.
The Authority shall deal with anyone caught carrying out any act of vandalism or touting at the airports,” the FAAN’s spokeswoman warned.
