Management sets up investigation committee
The headquarters of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria(FAAN) was this morning gutted in an inferno.
The fire which source is yet to be known started at about 8:30 am shortly after workers resumed into their offices in the office.
Reliable sources in the airport claimed that the the emergence response was activated and all the sister rescue organisation in Lagos state were brought in to help in fighting the inferno which was put under control after about one hour.
The affected sector of the building included the corporate affairs, audit and commercial departments.
Speaking to journalists on the incident shortly after his arrival from Abuja where he was attending a meeting, Managing Director of FAAN Engr. Saleh Dunoma said an investigating committee has been set up to look into the remote and immediate causes of the inferno to prevent future occur.
He said members of the committeee would include representatives from Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)! Accident Investigation Bureau, (AIB), Directorate of State Security, (DSS), Police Force, Aviation Security, Aerodome Safety and the Legal department of FAAN which will service as Secretary to the committee.
Speaking further on the incident, Saleh disclosed that while the affected departments are condorned off to allow for proper investigations, works would resumed in other sectors of the building by Wednesday.
“We are not shutting down to business. We would resume business as early as possible. We have condorned off the affected areas for proper investigations.” adding that police investigations is very important and would not be impeeded in any way
On the new headquarters for the airports authority, the chief executive officer said ” the FAAN headquarters project is on going. He disclosed that it has reached the level where architects have submitted. He said the next stage is the appointment of a Consulting Archetect who would oversee the selection of the best design and supervise the project.
Dunoma who wore a sober look, was accompanied by all the directors in the authority during the inspection.
