The Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku on Wednesday at the 2025 Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) held in Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates, signed the ICAO – FAAN TRAINAIR PLUS Manuals.
The signed manual will help FAAN to improve safety and efficiency of air transport; and establish, maintain, and monitor high standards of training and competency of its personnel on a worldwide basis and in a cost-effective manner.
The TRAINAIR PLUS Manuals is a cooperative network of training organizations and industry partners working together to develop and deliver ICAO-harmonized training packages. These packages include:
STP – Standardized Training Package
ITP – ICAO Training Package
CTP – Compliant Training Package
PTP – Partner Training Package
Present during the signing of the ICAO FAAN TRAINAIR PLUS Manuals were Director of Human Resources and Administration at FAAN Dr. Emiola Luqman, the Director of Airport Operation at FAAN, Captain Abdullahi Mahmoo and Mrs. Toyin Akinlad, the Acting General Manager of Training at FAAN Mrs. Toyin Akinlade.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah in a statement said signing the manual was significant towards achieving the commitment of FAAN to excellence in aviation training.
“This achievement marks a significant advancement in FAAN’s commitment to excellence in aviation training and support,” Orah noted.
The FAAN delegation led by Kuku at different events at the GISS event made meaningful contributions to the discussions on theme of this year’s symposium: “The Next Flight: Innovating for a Sustainable Tomorrow,”
Some of the topics discussed during the programme include, Balancing Aviation Growth with Sustainability, Leveraging Artificiall intelligence (AI) to enhance Airport Operations and Training, and Strengthening implementation Support for Resource-Constrained
Commenting after participating in the discussions, Kuku: “We are particularly interested in exploring the role of AI in revolutionizing both airport operations and training and how FAAN can effectively integrate these technologies to enhance efficiency and sustainability at our airports.”
The programme which held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates between February 10 and 12, 2025, addressed critical issues facing the aviation industry and served as a platform for global stakeholders to collaborate and share best practices.
The FAAN team also attendend sessions on transforming digital learning in aviation training and exploring evolving strategies for a more sustainable aviation future.
On Day Two of the symposium, Mrs. Kuku on behalf of FAAN received the TRAINAIR PLUS member plaque.
Orah described the two day programme,saying, “the GISS provided n invaluable opportunity for FAAN to connect with global leaders and gain insights into the latest advancements and challenges in the aviation sector.
“FAAN’s participation in the ICAO GISS underscores its commitment to remaining at the forefront of aviation best practices and delivering world-class airport services.
“The knowledge and insights gained from this symposium will be instrumental in shaping FAAN’s future strategies and initiatives.”
