The Runway 18R/L36, Murtalla Muhammed International Airport, Lagos (MMIA) has been returned to full operations by Federal Airports Authority of Nigrria (FAAN)
The runway came alive on Saturday, February 17, 2024, after it was shot down for close to a year ago, following the theft of some of its air field lighting equipmemt.
The runway handled its first at 11:33 hrs (WAT+1)) with arrival of a flight operated by Kenya Airways with a Boeing 737 marked 5YCY.
Captain of the fllight, Meme Kondwani, who atrested to the standatd quallity of the runway confirmed that it has very smooth surface supported with state-of-the-art landing facilities
A statement by the spokeswoman at FAAN, Obiageli Orah said the Runway 18R was shutdown by the FAAN about a year ago the interest of safety and to give way for renovation works to be carried out during this period of shutdown.
Orah expessed the hope that the reopening of Runway 18R would rightly address the needs of international airlines as well as reduce traffic on Runway 18L/ R36 currently in use.
