
Management of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport Ibadan (SLAAI).
The closure accordingly to a statement by Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah is to allow for the completion of ongoing upgrade works there.
African Business Travel News (ABTNEWS) learnt that the ongoing works, on completion, will lead to the upgrade of the airport to international status.
Also the runway of the airport, which is currently undergoing remodeling works by the Oyo State Government, has been closed by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) in line with the ICAO Regulations.
According to the statement signed by Orah the closure became imperative to ensure safety.
“In compliance with aviation safety recommended standards and processes, the closure became imperative to ensure the safety of passengers as well as airport personnel.”
The statement which did not disclose the period the closure will last, however appealed for understanding among stakeholders.
“FAAN appeals to airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the closure period,” said statement.
