… Promises to close the gap
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has cleared the runway of Akure Airport of the cows which strayed into it today. The incursion of the animals into the airport prevented an inbound flight operated by Air Peace from landing as scheduled. The flight was prevented from landing until security officials dispersed the animal. The federal airports authority has however apologized to the airline on the incident.
A statement by spokesperson at FAAN, Mrs. Yakubu Henrietta on the incident stated, “FAAN wishes to apologize to Air Peace Airlines and our esteemed passengers for a runway incursion incident that prevented an Akure airport bound flight from landing for some minutes.
The Air Peace flight, which left Lagos for Akure could not land immediately as some cows had strayed into the runway of the airport.”
Yakubu added that normalcy was restored quickly, as officers of the aviation security department quickly dispersed the cows from the runway and the aircraft was cleared for landing.
Assuring air travellers and the general public of their safety while using any of the airports under its control, FAAN said “efforts are already ongoing to close the gap that aided this incident”:
