Power supply to Ibadan Airport, Oyo State, has received a boost with the installation and commissioning of a 33KVA substation at the airport.
Commissioning the dedicated power line project and the substation, on behalf of FAAN Managing Director, Kabir Muhammed Yussuf, the Ibadan Airport Manager, Ojo Adedeji Afolabi FCA said the upgrading of the Airport electrical substation is a laudable project that would ensure regular power supply to the airport and drastically reduce diesel consumption
Ojo who expressed appreciation to FAAN Management for sponsoring the substation project to Ibadan Airport, added that regular power supply is an essential mechanism for smooth running of airport operations.
Ojo also said that the newly installed substation is capable of supplying 15 hours constant power supply to the airport.
The Airport Manager, however appealed to the Management of Ibadan Electric Distribution Company (IBEDC) to ensure uninterrupted supply of power to the airport especially during operations hours.
It could be recalled that until the installation of the facility power was being supplied to the airport through a 11KV system which subjected the Airport to erratic power supply making the airport to depend on diesel powered generator as the main source of power supply
The recent upgrading to 33KV industrial supply, will boost Airport operations capable of supplying power for duration ranges from 8 to 20 hours daily depending on Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) electrical current allocation.
The project which was initiated and sponsored by FAAN management, comprises of the following electrical devices:
1). 2.5MVA transformer.
2) 33KV outdoor vacuum circuit breaker.
3) Voltage transformer (VT)
4) Current transformer (CT)
5) 33KV indoor display and relay board
6) 110V battery bank. etc
