Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said that at the accident aircraft type, Boeing 737 – Max 8 is not in operation in the country.
NCAA made this known in a release sent by its spokesman, Sam Adurogboye to clear air on safety following the crash of Ethiopian Airlines B 737- Max 8 and to assure the flying public of their safety, stating that there is no cause for alarm.
Adurogboye however, said that the Authority, in line with its Safety Oversight mandate enshrined in the Civil Aviation Act 2006, is consciously monitoring the development (s) with a view to take the necessary steps that will enhance the safety of all aircraft in operation within the Nigerian airspace.
It would be recalled that an Ethiopian Airline B737 -Max 8 crashed on Sunday March 10, 2019 killing all the 157 souls including two Nigerians on board.
The Sunday accident which followed the one involving same model of aircraft in the fleet of Lion Air has caused many airlines and some other countries to ground the accident aircraft type in their operations pending further reports on its safety status.
“This is to assure the public that NCAA will continue to ensure that safety regulations are strictly adhered to for the safety of all in Nigeria.
“Our heart is with Ethiopian Airlines and families of the victims of the accident,” NCAA said.
