The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health would tomorrow give an official statement on the report of a passenger allegedly quarantined at Murtala Muhammed international airport, Lagos, for Ebola. africanbusinesstravel.com.ng has learnt.
Reliable sources who spoke with our correspondent in Abuja under the conditions of anonymity, because they don’t have the permission to speak on the matter, said” the Ministry will make an official statement by tomorrow”.
Sources however confirmed that a passenger was picked out for further examination among arrival passengers during surveillance screening at the Lagos airport.
The sources however, frowned at the reports in some social media, which claimed the presence of the virus in the country.
“From which laboratory did they get their report which indicated that a passenger tested positive to the dreaded Ebola virus?
“It is part of the regular surveillance screening we carry out at the entry points in all our airports, seaports and land borders in the country. We have the infra red scanning machines installed at these points. Immediately any passenger with abnormal temperature comes nearer to the machine, we would know. The suspected passenger would be picked out for further examinations.
“I don’t want to be preemptive of the reports of tests carried out on the passenger. i would advise that everyone should remain calm and go about their normal businesses without entertaining any fear, while we expect the official statement,” the sources said.
