A private aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) 7 Star Global Hangar has diversified its upholstery arm to the production of facemasks as part of the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 while scientists across the world work round the clock to get a cure.
Speaking on the innovation to keep business going as COVID-19 pandemic ravages the world including aviation sector, leading to loss of jobs, the Chief Executive Officer of the first private MRO in West Africa, Engr. Isaac Balami said the organization has succeeded at diversifying its upholstery arm to produce facemasks, noting that it is a proactive move by the management not only to retain but employ more staff.
“I’m glad to announce that 7 Star global hangar, the first private aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) in West Africa, has successfully diversified its upholstery arm to mass producing face masks in the fight against Covid-19.
“We understand the dynamics of the complex situations woven around the present times, even beyond and we have chosen to retain our staff and not lay off or retrench them. And we have not only retained our staff, we have employed even more.”
To achieve this strategy, Balami said “We have acquired hundreds of industrial sowing machines and have employed more than 1,000 Nigerian tailors. We have created more jobs than we ever imagined Pre-Covid-19 and we have the capacity to produce 70,000-100,000 face masks daily”.
Speaking on the quality of the new products, he said “Our face masks are of high quality and they are woven from the best fabrics, even as they undergo the most advanced safety check.”
The former President of Nigerian Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAPAE) said “the mass production of these quality masks will last as long as we fight coronavirus while we hope that some day, sooner than we think, these very trying moments will be a thing of the past”.
