Another airline has reached advanced stage of the the plans to move its operations from the old terminal to the newly commissioned terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos. African Business Travel ravel News (ABTN) can report.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that Ghana based Africa World Airlines (AWA) has reached agreements with concerned authorities in the aviation industry in Nigeria on the plans to move its operations to the new terminal.
Similarly, another West Coast based airline, Asky is awaiting approval to move its operations into the new terminal.
With this, AWA would be the second airline, after West and Central African largest airline, Air Peace, to move its operations to the terminal commissioned in March 2022.
Our correspondent learnt that the Ghana based airline was considered to move its operations to the new terminal after foreign airlines operating into the airport declined to move their operations to the new terminal over the claim that the apron of the new terminal is too small for their aircraft types.
A reliable source in the Ministry of Aviation which doesn’t want identity disclosed, because it was not given the permission to speak on the the development, however expressed optimism that foreign airlines with bigger aircraft type would soon move their operations into the new terminal as soon as the ongoing expansion works on the apron are completed.
Meanwhile, a reliable source at the Lome Togo based Asky airline said: ” We have applied to Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for the approval to allow us to move our operations to the new terminal. All we are waiting for is the approval from aviation authorities in Nigeria and we wouldn’t waste time before we move in.”
Africa World Airlines Limited (AWA) is a Ghanaian airline company that was incorporated in 2010 and commenced flights in 2012. It has its head office in Airport City Accra, and its main hub at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
It is the largest airline in Ghana with over 600,000 passengers booked in 2021, accounting for 65 percent of domestic passengers and 30 percent of all air passengers in the country. The airline has been consistently profitable since 2014.
