To further boost its training capacity in aviation courses, the management of International Aviation College (IAC), Ilorin is set to sign a Memorandum of Undeestanding (MoU) with Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria
This was made known on Monday by Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq when he declared open the 2023 edition of one week annual training programme for League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) at Campus of International Aviation College Ilorin.
The Governor who was represented by Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Ronke Arinde, pledged that his administration will continue to support aviation industry, particularly the aviation college in all raminifications despite limited resources at the disposal of his government.
The Commissioner who did not mention the details of the MOU said the signing is expected to take place soon.
Arinde who also ststed that, the state government has been providing significant support to the college since its establishment in 2015, reiterated the commitment of the present administration in the state to do more to reposition the college for effective service delivery.
She also said that, the government is considering the request from the IAC management to establish a School of Engineering, which is expected to boost the college’s internally generated revenue and position it to access TETFund intervention.
She added that other requests such as the establishment of short courses like cabin crew training, are also being considered.
In his welcome address at the event, Rector of IAC, Capt. Yakubu Okatahi appealed to members of LAAC to continue to report positively about the industry to the outside world and to partner with stakeholders on education of the public about the industry.
In his remarks, Chairman of LAAC, Mr. Suleiman Idris while applauding the sponsors of the training programme, assured them that, the knowledge and skills acquired during the training would be deployed towards the development and growth of the industry in their coverage and reportage.
“This is the second time that LAAC is undergoing this annual training here at the International Aviation College, Ilorin after experiences of similar trainings for decades at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology NCAT, Zaria, and you can testify that differences in the knowledge and skills we gathered from this training last year, has not only sharpened our understanding of the aviation industry, it also reflected significantly in our coverage and reportage of the industry’s events”.
He assured the management of IAC of their unalloyed support in promoting its activities, “From the relationship between LAAC and IAC so far, it is obvious that our partnership can only grow higher and higher. I wish to reassure you that LAAC will continue to support IAC in pursuing its vision and objectives and ensure that IAC furthers its performance in the global aviation training market”.
In attendance were representative of the Acting Director, General Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, management staff of IAC.
