Says, no report of bad weather within 24 hours to elections in the country
…All airports were opened for 24 hours
The Minister of State, aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the factor of weather as part of reasons put forward for the postponement of Presidential and National Assembly elections slated for Saturday February 16, 2019.
Sirika said INEC cannot attribute its failures to conduct the elections as scheduled on Saturday to bad weather, because there was no record of bad weather in the country on the eve of the election day, just as he said that all airports needed for the movements of personnel and materials for the elections, were opened for 24 hours.
Sirika who challenged INEC in a post on his tweeter handle @hadisirika’s Tweet:https://twitter.com/hadisirika/status/1097162674549542918?s=08 today, said: “INEC should say something else as weather was good for flight operations on eve of elections, similarly all airports were directed to open 24 hours during the election period!!!”
It would be recalled that the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Muhammed Yakubu mentioned bad weather as one of the reasons the elections could not hold on Saturday and therefore rescheduled them to Saturday February 23, 2019 for the presidential and National Assembly elections and March 9, 2019 for Gubernatorial and State Assemblies elections respectively.
