Members of the League of Aviation and Airport Correspondents (LAAC) are mourning the death of one of their own, Mrs. Olushola Oluremi Adekola.
This was made known in a statement by the General Secretary of the League, Mr. Anthony Awunor.
Madam Sholly, as she was popularly called, by her colleagues and friends in the aviation industry, died on Tuesday March 4, 2025 at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, after a brief illness. She was 61.
Late Adekola, a renowned journalist, doubled as Assistant Business and Aviation Editor for the nation’s oldest Newspaper, the Nigerian Tribune.
Born to Late Professor Morakinyo Omole and Mrs Funmilayo Omole, Shola grew up within the prestigious University of Ibadan community.
She Attended the Prestigious St Louis Girls’ Grammar School, Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State for her Secondary school Education.
She also attended University of Ibadan where she graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Studies.
She was also an alumnus of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, where she underwent different professional courses ranging from aviation reporting for image makers, advance training in aviation for image makers and management course for image makers between 1993 and 2023.
She attended the prestigious Commonwealth Institute of Advanced Professional Studies (CIAPS), Lagos, where she was awarded a certificate in reporting Aviation and Airports.
Besides her academic achievements, she also gathered international experiences as she travelled across Europe, America, Middle East and Africa continents to attend conferences on aviation and tourism related issues.
Until her demise, the renowned journalist authored the popular column ‘CRUCIAL MOMENT’ on the business page of Tribune every Thursday.
She joined the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondent (LAAC) in 1993 when she was posted to the beat by the Kano State Government owned Newspaper, the Triumph.
Between the period and up till her passing, the late Adekola worked with different newspapers: Hallmark, Daily Times, Reuters and the Nigerian Tribune where she rose through the ranks as a Correspondent, Proof Reader, Sub-Editor, and until her death, Assistant Editor/ aviation Editor in Nigerian Tribune.
For the period of her membership of LAAC, she served in different positions which included: Assistant Secretary, Secretary and Vice Chairman.
Burial arrangements will be announced by her family.
