A 50year old man, Celestine Nwoha suspected of being in possession of fake redesigned Naira notes has been arrested in Ekiti State by operatives of Western Nigeria Security Network popularly known as Amotekun.
Paraded at the Ekiti Command Headquarters of Amotekun, Nwoka was arrested after operatives of the security outfit got hint of his activities having and spending huge amount of the redesign Naira notes on him
Speaking while parading the suspect before Journalists in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, the Amotekun commandant, Brigadier General Joe Komolafe (Retired) alleged that the suspect was arrested in Omuo Ekiti, Ekiti East local Government where he was spending the money after operatives of the security outfit had gotten a hint and went after him.
Komolafe alleged that the suspect had earlier claimed he was a kolanuts and bitter Kola trader who got the money in Lagos State from where he came to Ekiti State to buy the produce. He added that Nwoha, after further interrogations, later confessed to the crime that he was given a sum of two hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000:00) in a factory in Lagos State.
“The suspect went to local area in Omuo and started spending the money before we got a hint and went after him,” Komolafe added, “he said he specialises in buying kola and bitter Kola, saying he was also paid with the cash in Lagos.
“On interrogation he confessed to the crime and said he was given two hundred and fifty thousand from a factory in Lagos.
The commandant however said, “but only one hundred thousand Naira (100,000:00) was found with him as he had spent some.”
The commandant said the command will hand the suspect over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
Brigadier Komolafe therefore urged members of the public to be careful especially during the current cash crunch to avoid falling victims of collecting fake money.
When questioned by journalists, the suspect confessed to have gotten the money from someone whose name he refused to disclose.
