A Beechcraft King Air B200 Jet with registration Marks 5N-IHS operated by JED Air Limited was involved in a occurrence when it rammed into a section of the wall of hangar of Bristow Helicopters Ltd, General Aviation Apron, Domestic Wing, Murtala Muhammed Airport,Lagos this morning. .
Details of the accident were yet unknown as at the time of filing in this report.
But eyewitness account said the aircraft was taxiing for reposition for ground run when the pilot lost control of the aircraft which rammed into the wall.
The source said there was no passenger on board the aircraft during the occurrence
Also the pilot reportedly came out of the aircraft without sustaining any injury.
However, when our correspondent contacted Accident Investigation Bureau spokesman at Accident Investigation Bureau, Tunji Oketunbi who confirmed the occurrence in a statement said the Bureau was aware of the occurence but it is not investigating it because it wa outside its purview. Oketunbi however said that because of the safety concerns of such occurence, the Bureau would work with Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in the effort to prevent future occurrences.
“Accident Investigation Bureau Nigeria (AIB-N) can confirmed that an incident involving a Beechcraft King Air B200 Jet with registration Marks 5N-IHS operated by JED Air Limited, occurred around 9:35am on August 21, 2020 beside Bristow Hangar 3 at GAT Apron, Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.
The aircraft collided with the apron wall while taxiing to reposition for ground run.
The Bureau has taken the decision NOT to investigate the incident as there was no intention of flight. This is in line with the provisions of section 29 Civil Avaition Act 2006, Section 3 of Civil Avaition (Investigation if Air Accident) Regulation 2019 and the guidance document of ICAO Annex 13
We recognise the safety issues involved but have taken steps to work with the Nigerian Civil Aviaition Authority (NCAA) who will take lead in the investigation to prevent future occurrences.
