Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) close down the runway of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for 30 minutes today after an aircraft operated by Nest Oil skidded off the runway
A statement by spokesperson at FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu (Mrs.) said the runway of the Airport was opened after 30 minutes for normal operations.
Mrs Yakubu stated the aircraft lost its landing gear in the process, but that all hands were on deck to put the situation under control and normalcy was restored within the hour.
The management of FAAN while notifying passengers and airport users earlier before the re-opening stated that the closing of the runway was to enable the Authority take safety precautions.
There was no report of any casualty in the incident. Meanwhile investigations to the cause of the skidding on the newly rehabilitated runway have started.
