African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency seat at the National Assembly, Hon. Obinna Nwosu has expressed his confidence of winning the forthcoming election come February 25, 2023.
Nwosu, a 31-year old chartered accountant made the declaration while addressing pressmen in Umuahia last weekend.
” I am 100 per cent confident that with the knd of support I am getting from my supporters, I will represent Ikwuano/Umuahia Constituency at the National Assembly and I will never let them down,” Nwosu stated.
He added: ” I am happy that our campaign is on course and we are doing very well. I can assure all our supporters that with the overwhelming votes expected from them, they will for the first time in history get the real change they have been yearning for.
” The good news is that I am contesting under the platform of a reputable party. The people are the real structures but they underestimate us by saying we don’t have structures.
” So I want my opponents to keep on thinking we are not known or that we don’t have structures until we shock them in the election.”
When asked whether his age won’t count as disadvantage to actualizing his political ambition, Nwosu who is the youngest candidate taking a shot at the green chamber, asserted:” As a matter of fact, my age is an advantage to me. I have gone through the INEC data and it revealed that the youths make up about 71 per cent of voters demography.
” If I can successfully project my progress-driven intentions to the youths, there is no doubt that they have the capacity to swing the election in my favour. In that regard, I am 100 per cent confident about my chances of emerging victorious in the election.
“Remember we are in an era of polling revolution, there is a general wave in the land clamouring for a new Nigeria and younger generation to take over governance in the country.
” The youths are angry and as such they are no longer interested in nonsense. They want generational shift in leadership and this revolution must be driven by highly cerebral, progressive and innovative young leaders without greed.”
He therefore urged all Abians to get their PVC and vote according to their conscience during the forthcoming election.
“Everyone of us should carefully examine the records of all the candidates before making choice. Let’s use our conscience to vote massively for the candidate who deserves to represent us.”
He promised to better the lot of the people whose interest he has at heart, and reiterated his total commitment to ensuring that the better days are back again.
“I want to emulate great leaders like Dr. Michael Okpara and Akanu Ibiam with the view of bringing back the glorious days. We should be looking forward to a new dawn,” Nwosu posited.
“My constituents will enjoy open book representation and I am going to to be very accessible to my people. There will be regular townhall meetings and engagements across various digital platforms”.
Commenting on poverty alleviation, Nwosu stressed he would harness the potential of the human and material resources the Constituency is endowed with to achieve meaningful human and capital development.
“I plan to put in place a youth seating at table policy. This is to make sure that the youths are adequately represented in every table of decision making. There’s a saying that, “when you build the youths, you build the nation.” We should not ignore the fact that the youths are engine house of any functional society.
“I will also push for a pay teachers first policy. I want a situation whereby the teachers are being paid before anybody else including the legislators and the executives. It is unfair for a governor to receive his salary while the teachers will wait for many months before receiving theirs.
” This is important because education is is the bedrock for nation building. When we invest and prioritize our educational sectors, then the students will be the direct beneficiaries.
” Well motivated teachers will give the students the best. These are people we look up to as future leaders. You can reason with me why we must give education a priority, not just at the national level but also in the state and within the Constituency.
“My mission of going to the House is purely for developmental purposes. This is not politics for pocket. This time round, it’s not just development on paper, it’s going to be physical development.”
He pointed out that the job of representing the people requires someone with capacity, commitment and credibility.
“I want to sincerely serve our people. So I will make sure you enjoy accountability. If given the opportunity, with all my heart I will do my best with the highest degree of devotion and dedication. I strongly believe that I have all the qualities to serve my people.
“I don’t have a godfather but I have God the father. The heart of kings are in the hands of of God almighty. I have taken my case to the court of where all of us are equal and that is God in Heaven. The God that sees my mission and my heart will be my Godfather.
“I have put this mission on God’s laps. If I am going there for genuine mission He knows, and if I am not, He also knows. It’s just between me and my God. My mission is very genuine and I am hopeful. God has the final say, so let His will be done.”
He assured that if elected, he would change the narrative of sharing rice, beans, tomatoes and onions as dividends of democracy to constituents, stressing he would ensure infastructural development, youths empowerment, human capital development, literacy emancipation, human rights protection, restoration of human dignity, equity and fair play in all ramifications, and ameliorate poverty rate.
” The best way to improve the lives of our people is through politics. That is why I deem it necessary to go there in order to bring good governance and dividends of democracy to the people. At present we won’t say we don’t have a representative but there is a big void one has been challenged to fill and that void is adequate representation.
“I am going there to cover the loopholes which make water come out of the eyes of our people. I will not distribute rice, beans, tomatoes and onions. If anyone promise that, I will not be part of that category of people. But things can be done which our Constituency can benefit from in the near future and that is what I stand for.
“I am going to right the wrong and deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. Instead of sharing paints of rice, beans, tomatoes and onions I am going to focus on human capital development.
“I will achieve all these by introducing bills which when passed into law can guarantee most of these things to be done and can be able to play equal level ground for both common people and general. I am committed to bringing quality representation to this Constituency”, Nwosu submitted in a tone of finality.
