Passenger arrested at Lagos airport for illegal firearm possession is a USA military personnel

The firearm Mr. Afolabi Olumide was accused of bringing into Nigeria illegally

 

The United Airline’s passenger, Mr. Afolabi Olumide, arrested yesterday at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos for illegal possession of firearm is a personnel of the military service in the United States of America (USA).

African Business Travel News (ABTN) gathered that Afolabi whom Nigeria Inmigration Service (NIS) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) laid claim  to his arrest, declared possession of he firearm to authorities at the airport of departure and the United Airline before embarking on the trip.

Also information gathered by our correspondent added that Afolabi declared possession of the firearm at Lagos airport before his arrest.

However, authorities  at NCS and NIS insisted that the passenger according to Nigerian law was in possession of the farearm illegally.

However,  a top aviation security personnel who doesn’t want  its identity made public, said the suspect may not be prosecuted be if he can prove his membership of the USA military Service and that meets all the requirements to be in possession of such firearm in Nigeria.
