Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Murtala Mohammed Airport Domestic Terminal Two (MMA2), Air Peace, Ethiopian Airline and the Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) emerged winners of five categories of awards given out by League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) at its 25th edition of Annual Conference/Awards with the theme: Nigeria’s Aviation Industry: Management, Policy and Regulation”, held during the week at Sheraton Hotel on July 28, 2021.
While FAAN won the maiden edition of “Lateef Lawal Award for Airports Manager of The Year”, Bi- Courtney Aviation Service (BASL) the operator of MMA2 won the Award for the “Most COVID-19 Compliant Terminal. Air Peace won the Award for “Humanitarian Airline of The Year 2020”, just as Ethiopian Airline won “Covid-19 Most Innovative Carrier.”

Also, the Commissioner/CEO of AIB, Engr Akin Olateru won “CEO of The Year 2020″ award.
LAAC said, FAAN was given the award based on the Authority’s efforts at efficient management of all the airports under its control.
The Lateef Lawal Award for Airports Manager of The Year”, (LATLAW Award) was instituted by LAAC to immortalise its first Chairman, Alhaji Lateef Lawal who died early this year.
The MMA2 award was presented on behalf of LAAC to BASL by Mallam Adamu Abdullahi, the Executive Commissioner (Operations), Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council, (FCCPC).
According to the league, the award was in recognition of the high level of safety protocols put in place by BASL in its operations as mandated by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19.
Responding, the Group Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Mikail Mumuni, who received the award on behalf of BASL, heartily expressed the company’s appreciation to the League, saying it signifies an endorsement of its contributions to making the aviation sector safer.
“We are pleased to receive this award from the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents. We see this as an endorsement of our contribution and commitment to the upliftment of the aviation industry,” Mumuni said.
Also in his remarks, Air Peace, Spokesman, Mr Stanley Olisa, while receiving the award, commended LAAC, stating that such recognition will ginger the airline to do more.
General Manager, Ethiopian Airline Nigeria, Mr Shimeless Arange received the Ethiopian Airline award alongside, Organiser, Akwaaba African Travel Market, Mr Ikechi Uko, Organiser, Akwaaba, on behalf of the airline.
In his acceptance speech, Arange equally commended LAAC, stating that the recognition is a plus for the East African carrier.
