In a show of disrespect to the guidelines of Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 set up by President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Tuesday led eight of his aides to breach aviation security and COVID-19 protocols put in place in Rivers State.
This, allegedly happened barely three days after former Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji AbdulAziz Yari refused to observe public health protocols and assaulted an Airport worker at Malam Aminu Kano Airport, Kano on July 11.
According to a message from Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Governor Fintiri and eight others on his entourage on July 14 allegedly engaged in security breaches and refused to follow the public health protocols at the Port Harcourt Airport.
FAAN, in a tweet, condemned the conducts of the Governor and his aides at the Airport at a time every hand should be on the deck to curb the spread of COVID-19 through some guidelines put in place by the Federal Government through Presidential Task Force ( PTF) on COVID-19, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)
“Governor Alhaji. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who arrived Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) aboard aircraft 5N-IZY, at 17:08 hrs on 14th July 2020 with 8 others, and who flagrantly refused to observe the Airport Security and Public Health protocols as directed by the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on #COVID19 by refusing to have his temperature checked, or being sanitised by the health officials.”
“His whole entourage of eight (8) did exactly as he did. The team that came to receive them drove right through the barricades up to the terminal building ignoring traffic and Aviation Security instructions.
FAAN says this is irresponsible of the governor and endangers all other airport users.
“It is unacceptable, and as such it has also been duly escalated. FAAN hereby cautions all airport users, especially our esteemed VIPs , to please respect the Presidential directive by observing airport Security and Public Health travel protocols put in place to protect all air travellers against acts of unlawful interference, infection and the spread of the COVID-19.
Meanwhile, FAAN has commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde who also used the Port Harcourt Airport for observing and subjecting himself to health checks at the airport.
