Customs Service (NCS), Murtala Muhammed Airport, Area Command generated the sum of ₦4,991,674,905.00 billion revenue in the month of September, 2019.
The figure exceeded the Command’s monthly revenue target with ₦674,171,230.00 translating to 115.6%, and also exceeded that of September, 2018 collection
₦3.976, 291,655.00 with ₦1,015,356,250.00
A statement obtained by africanbusinesstravel.com.ng from the Public Relations Officer of the Command,, Ephraim Joseph Haruna said the feat was achievable because of the strategies put in place by the new Customs Area Controller, (CAC) Comptroller Mrs. L E Oyama who took charge of the command on August 21, 2019.
According to the statement, some of the strategies put included but not limited to; Repositioning of man power; regular stakeholder engagement resulting in increased compliance; regular meetings with principal officers (DC Sheds, releasing officers, examination officers, officers in charge of gates, TARMAC and Tally officers), Open-door policy; capacity building (organizing refresher courses on HS Code, Classification, Role of Origin, Valuation etc); removal of bottle necks, by decentralising the clearing process, resulting in trade facilitation; and Regular consultations with her bosses at the Zonal Office and Headquarters Abuja.
In the area of anti – smuggling activities, the command made impressive seizures for the month of September 2019 with duty paid value (DPV) of ₦12, 615,743.30
These seizures include drones of different makes, Walkie-Talkie Radios, Military Armoured Vests etc.
Ephraim said, “The CAC wishes to use this forum to inform the public that drones are not allowed into the country without End-User-Certificate (EUC) for security reasons”.
While commending the level of stakeholders’ compliance, Oyama charged them to continue in their truthful declarations to enable seamless clearance of consignments.
Commending the officers and men of the Command for their stellar performances during the period, the CAC encouraged them to be disciplined and apply the 7-Cs particularly “consult colleagues”, working as a team and controlling situations while on duty.
