As Nigerians go to poll tomorrow to elect their president, the Federal Government has ordered the closure of the nation’s land borders with neighbouring countries.
A release marked NIS/ SHQ/PRU/1506 dated, February 14, 2019 and signed by the Comptroller – General, Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Muhammad Babandede (mni) said the closure which was on the order of the Minister of Interior was to ensure restriction of movements across borders during the election days.
The closure which takes effects from 12 noon today, Friday February 15, 2019 would last till 12.00 noon of Sunday, February 17, 2019.
“Further to the Presidential Election taking place on the 16th of February, 2019, the Minister of Interior has ordered the closure of all Nigeria land borders with effect from 12noon Friday February 15, 2019 to 12 noon Sunday 17 the February 2019. This is to restrict movements across borders during the election day,” the statement said.
Babandede however, appealed to everyone concerned to take note of the restrictions and ensure compliance.
