As the 2018 Ember Months Special Patrol/ January 2019 Operations enter ninth day yesterday, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC ) Ogun State Command recorded a total of seven road traffic crashes resulting in seven deaths across different parts of Ogun State highways yesterday, Saturday December 22, 2018
African Business Travel News (ABTN) reliably gathered that the crashes which occurred between 5.00 am and 7 pm yesterday were avoidable if the affected motorists had kept to the driving rules.
The first crash occurred at about 5 am ( 0507 hrs) on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway way.
The accident which happened at KM21 Asese, involved two vehicles with registration number XW 234 SMK MAZDA PICK- UP and a TRUCK ( DAF) with no registration number.
Four persons were involved in the crash ( four male adult) while two of the victims survived the crash two of them were killed.. (two Male adult,) The dead bodies were deposited at Divine Touch Hospital, Ibafo..
The second crash, according to the source, was a multiple crash, occurred at about 0800 hrs on the Lagos-Abeokuta route around Ajegunle market. Seven vehicles with registration numbers KTU280 XB, ( TRUCK ) LSD671 EY( CAMRY) . LND855 XN ( TOYOTA HAICE BUS) DBG450 XA ( TOYOTA BUS) GGE317 XA ( YELLOW BUS) MUS378 DL ( NISSAN) KTU842 XC( YELLOW BUS) 22 persons were involved (12 male adult, 10 female adult) 2 were injured ( 1 female adult ,1 Male ). The third crash occurred at about 1059 hrs on the Sagamu – Ore expressway around J4 involving two vehicles with registration number KJA587 Toyota Sienna and a Dangotte truck with no registration number .Eight persons were involved (four male adult, four female adult) 4 persons were injured (2 Male adult and 2 female adult). Two persons (1 male adult and 1 female adult) were killed in the crash and their bodies were deposited at Ijebu- Ode mortuary.
The fourth crash occurred at about 1115 hrs on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Conoil involving two vehicles with registration number LSD458 EC ( TOYOTA SIENNA and UKP402 ZU TOYOTA SIENNA 14 persons were involved comprising of (6 male adult, 3 female adult, 3 male children, 2 female children ) 7 persons were injured ( 2 female adult,1 male adult, 3 male children,1 female child). The injured victims were taken to OOUTH Sagamu.
The fifth crash occurred at about 1231 hrs on the Lagos-Abeokuta route around Railway crossing Ifo. Three persons were involved in the crash (1 male adult and 2 female adult) one person killed (1 female adult)
The sixth crash occurred at about 1600 hrs on the Lagos-Abeokuta route around Osoupori involving 18 persons (13 male adult, 5 female adult ) 4 persons were injured ( 3 female adult and 1 male adult). One Vehicle was involved with registration number, EPE 522 XV MAZDA BUS. The injured victims were taken to WASIMI HOSPITAL.
The seventh crash occurred at about 1730 hrs along Otta- Idiroko (Animashoun estate) involving a Mack trailer conveying container and a Mazda with registration number AAA152BK.
Four persons were involved (2 Male adult and 2 female adult) 2 were injured while two persons (1 female adult and 1 male adult) were killed in the crash The injured victims were taken to general hospital Otta while the death bodies were deposited at Ifo mortuary.
The FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele who confirmed the crashes and the number of deaths enjoined motorists to drive cautiously as heavy motorisation is witnessed due to the festivities
Oladele also enjoined motorists to note the efforts of the Federal Government in the removal of the entire diversions on the entire stretch of Lagos – Ibadan Expressway which has made the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway more motorable, however advised motorists to remember that the areas where diversions were removed on the Lagos -Ibadan Expressway are still construction zones were they should maintain the stipulated 50km per hour maximum speed limit as well as refrain from overtaking till they are clearly out of construction zone, as violators are liable to prosecution.
