Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reopened the Runway 22, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, which was partially closed at about 2200hours yesterday, September 12, 2018, to take arrivals and departures, subject to a reduced threshold of 3000metres.
The runway was partially shut after an incident involving a Gulfstream 4 aircraft operated by Skybird which overshot the runway,
A statement by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs at FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu said the incident happened on the runway while the aircraft was landing and consequently got stuck on the Runway End Safety Area (RESA),
Yakubu who reiterated the commitment of FAAN to safety of passengers, declared that the airport is safe for normal operations.
“The authority will like to assure airlines and passengers that the airport is safe for normal operations,” she said.
