As the nation set for 2019 general elections, the management Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has advised the general public, especially politicians and their supporters to comply with all rules and regulations at airports across the nation to ensure safety and security .
The advice is coming on the heels of the Friday August 3, invasion of the runway of Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto by loyalists of some politicians who broke through the airport fence and invaded the airport in a bid to receive their political masters.

Speaking on the security breach at the Sokoto airport, General Manager, Corporate Communication, FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu said, “FAAN has condemned in absolute terms, the invasion of the runway of Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto by loyalists of some politicians who broke through the airport fence and invaded the airport in a bid to receive their political masters.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, Yakubu,  in a statement made available to African Business Travel News (ABTN), said it was ” a gross violation of the security and safety arrangements at the airport, as thousands of political loyalists violently accessed restricted areas at the airport, breaking down the airport fence in the process and resisting all security machineries in place”.
She however said a team of aviation security officers were able to curtail the situation and normalcy was restored at the airport.
It should be noted that an airport environment is a highly regulated environment and should be seen as such.
