NCAA, FAAN, others get board chairmen, members

President Muhammadu BuhariThe much awaited constitution of the boards  of parastatals and agencies in the Ministry of Aviation have been made with appointments of Chairmen and members into the boards as announced by the federal government on Friday.

According to a report monitored on Ships $ Ports website, the appointment were among those of 209 board chairmen and 1,258 board members as stated in a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The new list was the largest set of appointments made by President Muhammad Buhari since he assumed office on May 29, 2015. The appointments in the into the boards of five of the six parastatals are as follow:

Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has   Dr Yakubu Lame Abdullahi Y. as Chairman and Gashu’a Capt. Ibraheem Olugbade As members.

The board of  Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is to be chaired by  the first civilian governor of Ekiti State Otunba Niyi Adebayo while  Akingbesote M. Akinyeye Suleiman Mohammed Bello Bello Babura  were appointed as board members.

Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria board Chairman is Mrs Deborah S. Iliyas, while members are  Chief Simon Owhofa

Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) board is to be chaired by Dr Simeon Adeyemi Afolayan  while Otunba J.F Alake Dr Chichi Ashwe  serve as members.

The board of the industry regulatory agency,  Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)  has Barr Mohammed Abdullahi as Chairman; with Chief Edet Nkpebre Uzoma Igbonwa Hon. Adisa Adeniji Mohd Salau Kafi as members.

However, the  board appointments for Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB)  was yet to be constituted according to the information available to African Business Travel News (ABTN) as at the time of going to press.

Board-Chairmen-and-membersA statement by the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF)  reads: “The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the constitution of the Governing Boards of Agencies and Parastatals, under some Ministries, as well as the appointment of eminently qualified Nigerians to fill the Board positions, numbering 209 Chairmen and 1258 members.

“Mr. President considered the approval for the constitution of the Boards as well as the appointments, very necessary, so as to provide a proper Governance and oversight structure for Government Agencies and Parastatals. The constitution of the boards with the appointments, is a demonstration of this Government’s efforts aimed at building strong institutions of Governance, and by extension, improving the quality of Policy formulation and supervision.

“While these appointments represent a substantial number of hitherto pending board appointments, some more appointments are still being processed and will be released in due course.

“The appointments take immediate effect and Honourable Ministers are advised to inaugurate the boards after letters of appointment have been issued.”
