With the level of preparations going on at the site of the newly constructed multi-storey car park at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, there are indications that all is set for the commissioning of the facility tomorrow.
When our correspondent visited the facility this afternoon, workers were seeing putting up an entertainment stage with lighting and speakers placed in strategic locations within the premises.
A source within the premises which spoke with our correspondent under the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the facility would be officially opened for the use airport users to park their vehicles as from tomorrow.
The six storey facility which was built through a Public Private Participation (PPP) by Seymour Aviation Multi-level Car Park Limited, which entered into a concession agreement with Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)
The project was conceived about four years ago when the Federal government embarked on construction of a new terminal in the airport.
The construction of the new terminal however led to the demolition of the then existing car park which leading to rowdiness and traffic jam within the airport environment; a situation which caused many motorists visiting the airport to encounter hardship before they finding a space to park their vehicles or get to the airport terminal.
“Apart from restoring sanity to the airport environment, reducing the distance one needs to cover by trekking after parking in the old car park, the new facility has provided us with the opportunity to park overnight, even as it has added to the aesthetic look of the nation’s busiest airport,” an airport user said.
The car park which has a capacity to take in more than 2000 vehicles at a time is equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities. Which included Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras mounted on every floor and around the premises, adequate conveniences for both male and female users on every floor, elevators that take users from one floor to the other, and banking services facility.
To ensure uninterrupted power supply, the facility is equipped with a standby generator that can provide power for 24hours.
One other significant advantage the facility prides of that 24 hour security services are provided by a renowned private security outfit in the country.
Passengers would also enjoy the protection from the effects of weather elements as they as they disembark from their vehicles within the facility and move into the terminal without using an umbrella.
