Oluyede in an interview with journalists said anything that can hinder democracy from thriving in the country must be resisted, adding that all lovers of democracy must work for the autonomy of the local government system in the country.
The medical doctor, who is an aspirant for the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State, said if given the nod to govern the state next year, he would ensure that elections into local government are conducted within few months of his assumption of office.
He promised to work for a vibrant, independent, strong and viable local governments, saying the era in which local government was treated as an appendage of the state government would be over.
He vowed to continue to work for the progress of the party, pointing out that the APC stood the chance of enthroning true participatory democracy as against arbitrariness which was the order of the day before the Muhammadu Buhari government came to power.
He maintained that Buhari government has been a blessing to the country, despite the recession being experienced, saying efforts being made by the Federal Government to get the country out of the woods is already bearing fruits.
“When I was moving round the Local governments, I assured Ekiti of Participatory Government , where Democracy will be enthroned. A Government of the People, by the People and for the People. Our Local Governments, as the Third-tier, will be independent, strong and viable.
“Democracy cannot thrive well if the government is not brought back to People. The People must take ownership of the Government. The Delegates will be part of my Government. The party would play a major role. I mean, a major role, of who gets what,” he said.
