FCCPC playing to the gallery, Prof. Okonkwo, AON spokesperson says
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has responded to the alleged claims by Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) that domestic airlines in Nigeria manipulate fares in December, saying the Federal Government agency is working against the growth of domestic airlines in the country.
In a statement signed by the Spokesperson of AON, Professor Obiora Okonkwo who claimed that FCCPC has displayed ignorance of economics of airlines, should not dabble into how airline’s air fares are fixed.
”I have not read the details of the report but what the FCCPC is doing is very detrimental to the survival of domestic operators. They don’t know the economics of airlines and do not possess the professional expertise to dabble into how prices are fixed.,” the AON spokesperson argued.
Okonkwo who also insisted that FCCPC does not understand how airlines operate warned the anti competition body against playing into the gallery.
,”They don’t understand airline operations and as far as the AON is concerned, they are playing to the gallery and should not be taken seriously. We have immense respect for all government agencies but we would not accept any statement not based on realities or facts,”he said.
